Question 1

What is the world’s largest domain database?

Accepted Answer

The WhoIs domain database is a comprehensive record of all registered domain names globally. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) mandates that accredited registrars publish essential registrant details, including domain creation and expiration dates, and contact information in the WhoIs database upon domain registration.
This is a standard policy for every registered domain name.

Question 2

Who can access my information?

Accepted Answer

Your domain registration details—including your name, address, and phone number—are publicly available in the WhoIs database. While this transparency can be beneficial for those looking to sell their domain, it also means your contact details may be exposed to spammers, hackers, or identity thieves.

Question 3

How can I keep my information private?

Accepted Answer

To safeguard your personal and business information, you can enable Domain Privacy Protection through our official partner, Private Registry Authority®. This service conceals your personal details from the public WhoIs database, providing an added layer of security. It is highly recommended for all business domain names.

Question 4

How can I find out whether a domain name is already registered?

Accepted Answer

Enter the domain into PacX’s WHOIS lookup. It searches for available registration information associated with that domain.

Question 5

What can a WHOIS search tell me about a domain?

Accepted Answer

A WHOIS result may show details such as the registrar and registration dates. The fields available depend on the domain and the information its registry makes public.

Question 6

Why is the domain owner’s name hidden in a WHOIS result?

Accepted Answer

Registration contact information may be hidden or redacted for privacy. A lookup result does not necessarily reveal the person or company behind a domain.

Question 7

Can I buy a domain directly from the WHOIS search result?

Accepted Answer

Use PacX’s Domain Registration search to check whether a name is available to register. WHOIS is intended to look up registration information for a domain.
